Jw-Media.org - What is the point???

when looking at this webpage i have allways been shocked by the lack of information that jws release about themselves.

one of the most striking things this year was that they (to my knowledge) never made an official release about the death of dan sydlick, but they have made releases about other members who have died in the past.

i think this follows along with my theory that broolkyn just dons't have it all togeather, and i don't think they ever really did.

You raise an interesting point, I guess I always thought they would be pretty good at what they did. I do remember a book study and some subtle changes were pointed out by some who had earlier books (dont remember the publication now) I was surprised at the time being a child, thinking they cant make mistakes - now i realise it was an unanounced update. Someone here pointed out recently that they still have information refering to the generation teaching - and how long has that been changed! Your right they are sloppy.

striking similarities to the pharisees?

is it just me or do jw elders seem to parallel the pharisses of christs day?

certainly, the excessive laws (written and oral), are a heavy burden for all jws, impossible to keep, leading to feelings of guilt.

the elders enforce these laws , and, just like the pharisees of christs day, render these laws as having greater importance than mercy/love.

This was one of the earliest area's that began my exit of the JW's. I couldn't understand the condemnation from the platform of the Pharisees and yet the next minute we were being told what to wear, where to sit, how to be groomed, how many hours we should do etc etc

As for the guilt - yes it became too much to bare, I wasnt good enough living up to the 'recomended' hours, attendance, study...(insert your own oral/written law here). The only good thing is that to some it can push them so far that they begin to see it for what it really is.

was it possible that we were taught that all races came from the same family?!

when i look back at that idea it seems very awkward and flawed.

i believe there was some mention of one of the early bible charactors as having darker skin - as though adam was a white man to begin with!

"i enjoyed your talk Brother"

i was musing about being a jw the other day.im not scarred by it like many,i dont hate anyone in my old cong..theres a couple of idiotic elders of course,but in the main my biggest thing when i think of my past life is the farsical nonsense of it all!.

meeting attendance,knocking on doors...oh dear.. one of the stupidest things was being required to do talks.i mean,come on who really used to listen to that drivel..i mean really listen?.

i was an ok speaker,nothing briliant,competent ..even gave a pub talk once when all the elders were on a jolly up at elders school.. it occurred to me how robotic bros and sis were when it came to giving praise!no matter how crap the talk was,one would always get a "i really enjoyed your talk brother".every time.without fail.i know they were being nice,i used to say it all the time too.my dad once said it to me and i asked him what he liked most about it?he admitted he didnt remember what it was even about.i dont remember in 30 years man and boy ever enjoying a talk.. yep,its a nonsense religion alright.full of braindead robots.. did anyone actually pay close attention and really enjoy the "food"from the platform?

I can remember that if a certain brother had the last talk on the thursday evening meeting - I would groan inside knowing that at the time i would be tired enough and then to hear his droning comments would surely send me to sleep (probably would have been better if i did nod off). Not that my own talks were much, it was an area i particularly didnt like but felt obliged to do. I would often get that one 'i enjoyed your talk' from a particular elders wife, and yet be counciled for it by the school overseer, lol.

did you notice or experience the fact that to have an approved romantic relationship you had to be baptised, and for men often you would be expected to be a min servant or elder, or at the very least reaching out in the congregation.

i'm sure others had other rules such as being a pioneer or something.

its another area where you are pressured into conforming to a certain ideal - not a scriptural one but an organisational one.

despite his busy schedule, paul was always eager to do more in jehovah?s service.. notice how using an ot example leaves jesus out of the picture.. [picture on page 29] fear of god is a precious heritage that parents can pass on to their children.

The reason behind shunning

when you think about it, when the elders disfellowship and then shun a person, it's to make an impact on the active ones still going to the meetings, rather than the df'd one.. they elders couldn't care less about the one who has been disfellowshipped.

that person is dead to their eyes.. the reason they make this so terrible, is a warning to the ones still active, not to try this.. some kind of blackmail, intended to the active ones.. .

It is to instill fear into the R & F, for sure but also protects them from learning the truth as the DF one questions outside of the box, and never can they allow their secrets to be discovered!

I have to say I could never reconcile the God is love with all the killing he did of innocent people! The more you look at it the more you can see the WTS has to convince the reader how it all makes sense when it so patently doesnt. To have to use OT examples that dont even work to send the message to the R & F to fear is so contrary to what Jesus taught, and because the apostate society, insists in cutting its members out of his covernant and blinding their minds to the real message, they will remain a judgemental, rule abiding, mistaken and dupped people.

This is what I like about this site, the observations made show me that I wasnt alone in the way i felt when I was a Witless. My mind couldnt get around the fact that the Pharisees would be condemned and yet the amount of rules as a JW - either written or spoken, were over bearing and weighed me down heavily. Some of it was just completely petty for the sake of gaining submission. An example of this was that I would do roving mikes. In the summer despite having airconditioning, the temperature would go up and I tended to sweat quite easily, so still smartly dressed (another rule without biblical backing) I did the mikes without my jacket on, I would have loved to have loosed or removed my tie too in reality, and an Elder gets up and councils me to put my jacket on - what freeking idiots! Power mad they were. The only good thing that comes from the crazy double talk is that it doesnt add up in people's minds and may eventually make them break free of the indoctrination.
